Your Home in Cambodia, on Solid Ground
Cambodia has no formal retirement visa. What it has is arguably better: the ordinary EB visa, renewable every 1, 3, 6, or 12 months, with no departures required and no restriction on foreign-source income.
Eligibility at a glance
- Who it's for
- Retirees, expats with foreign-source income, investors, and dependants of visa holders
- Stay
- Extensions of 1, 3, 6, or 12 months — renewable indefinitely
- Departures
- None required — extend entirely inside Cambodia
- Foreign-source income
- No restriction — pensions, remote work for overseas clients, and investment income are generally fine
- Not for
- Local employment — that requires the EB business category plus a work permit
Cambodia has no dedicated retirement visa. Instead, the ordinary EB category is the route for anyone living in Cambodia long-term without local employment — retirees on pension or savings income, expats earning from overseas clients, investors holding property or business interests without being locally employed, and dependants of business visa holders travelling with a primary applicant.
Requirements are flexible relative to many countries in the region: a passport valid at least six months beyond your intended stay, evidence of sufficient financial means (Cambodia doesn't publish a fixed income threshold, but immigration officers expect to see you can support yourself), recent photos, and a clean immigration record. Many people used to arrive on a tourist visa or e-visa and convert to the ordinary EB inside Cambodia. Since Cambodia ended the automatic extension of the Tourist Visa on 3 November 2025 that is no longer the safe default, and arriving on the ordinary visa from the start avoids a fresh application later. We confirm the right entry visa for your plans before you book.
The ordinary EB's flexibility comes with a trade-off: its requirements are among the least clearly published of any Cambodian visa category, and conflicting information online is common. We know what the General Department of Immigration currently expects to see and prepare your file accordingly.
If you plan to work for a Cambodian employer, the ordinary category isn't the right one — that's the EB business category plus a separate work permit.

Frequently asked questions
Does Cambodia have a retirement visa?
No — Cambodia has no dedicated retirement visa. The ordinary EB visa is the standard route for retirees and long-term expats, extendable for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months and renewable indefinitely without leaving the country.
Do I need to leave Cambodia to renew my ordinary visa?
No — extensions are processed entirely inside Cambodia at the General Department of Immigration. No border run required.
Can I work in Cambodia on an ordinary visa?
No — employment for a Cambodian employer requires the EB business category and a separate work permit. Foreign-source income, such as a pension or remote work for overseas clients, is generally fine, but confirm your specific situation with us before assuming.
How much money do I need to prove for a Cambodia ordinary visa?
Cambodia doesn't publish a specific minimum income or asset threshold for the ordinary EB the way some countries do. In practice, you need to demonstrate sufficient means to support your stay — we advise on what's typically considered adequate and help prepare your financial evidence.
Can my spouse or family join me on a Cambodia ordinary visa?
Yes — dependants apply for their own ordinary EB visas. We handle both applications together so timelines and renewals stay aligned.
Can I convert from a tourist visa or e-visa to an ordinary EB inside Cambodia?
It was the most common starting point. Cambodia ended the automatic extension of the Tourist Visa on 3 November 2025, so arriving on a tourist visa now generally means a fresh ordinary visa application rather than a simple conversion. Tell us how long you expect to stay and we will confirm which visa to enter on before you book.
